Default Head Unit + IPhone Dock

So, I've been looking at a ton of head units, some $500 plus to give me bluetooth, GPS, Video, and an IPhone hookup.

So, saving up and budgeting it out, then I saw this beauty in WalMart:
http://www.amazon.com/Dual-XML8100-M...7053276&sr=8-1 Sounds good and also solves my "Where to put my phone while I'm driving" issues.

Thought I'd share for everyone else. I personally have never seen a head unit like this. It's cheap because it doesn't have to do anything - your IPod/IPhone does it all for you!

Interesting. What I didn't see there is that is this a full function head unit? Or an iPod dock wired to a head unit? Or is it an iPod dock that uses a wireless connection of some sort to send and receive signals from a head unit?

I played with the display at WalMart with my IPod before I bought it (they were sold out). It's essentially an AM/FM tuner with an IPod dock. The sounds for the entire IPod come out the speakers while the head unit is using the IPod as a source.

I didn't try changing the song on my IPod via the head unit controls. But I did play some "Angry Birds" and the sounds came through the speakers. I think its little more than a head phone jack and charger.

It's got a bluetooth adapter to go with it, but I'm going to try a speaker phone instead...if it plays through the speakers, I'm golden. Otherwise, a $40 part is cheap for the functionality.

Pictures on Tuesday/Wednesday!

Well, I got it all installed and hooked up. Works great - I love it!

Only down side: the phone doesn't play through the speakers. Looks like I will be getting the bluetooth module to go with it.
