Default Exhaust

Hey name is Rich, im not new to the forum but mainly just been a reader... i just got a 2010 ram 1500 hemi bout 4 weeks ago now..

and im gonna fire up another exhaust topic.. i know i know.

anyway i want a nice rumble for my hemi... all i wanna do is replace the muffler, i know your mostly gonna say "mufflex" well i was headed that route when i realized that im looking at about 400 bucks canadian by the time i recieve it, and well i can buy a muffler and have it welded in all stainless for much less...

the question is what muffler... its a toss up between magnaflow and flowmaster.... ive heard some magna flow clips and i really like it, but i havent heard any flows to compare it to.....\

so i have a few questions.... im looking at a 14 magna or a 40 flow...i think...

questions... whats the tone of each like... is one or the other more annoying on the highway? whats got a decent loudness at idle but roars when tromped..
i read that ram hemis dont like flowmaster... for the life of me i cant figure that out... is it true if so why?

just as much info on this would be awesome as i wanna make the right choice when i head to the shop.

thanks all, and thanks for all the other informations youve been providing without even knowing.lol

Rich

The Flowmaster is definitely louder than the Magnaflow. It depends on how loud you want to be.

I prefer the Magnaflow sound. Nice burble at idle and when cruising. Really sounds good when you open it up. It isn't intrusive in the cabin when cruising down the road.

One system sounds different to different people. I've had both brands and definitely prefer the Magnaflow.

If you've listened to both and like the Flows, go with it.

They will all sound funny when MDS comes on unless you have resonators on the back. Most folks replace only the mufflers and leave the stock resonators on the back.

I'm not sure so I'm just guessing here but 2.5" inlet size seems right to me.

what is wrong with the flowmaster 50HD? Why does no one seem to like that...this is my first post but I have been reading the forum for about a month now and no one seems to talk about that muffler. Flowmaster says the built it espicially for trucks like the 1500 hemis?

Welcome to the forum, sharkinh2o. I've never tried that muffler. Is it quieter than the other Flows? Just wondering. I've run Flows before and they just got louder with age. Maybe it's my aged ears that have the problem.

I just purchased the volant CAI off autoanything today...they are having a $20 discount for father's day. just enter doit4dad. But want to get a great exhaust to go with it...currently the truck sounds similar to a golf cart and I want to help it breathe. what do you have now?

Volant intakes are pretty darn good setups.

I'm running a Magnaflow right now, single in/dual out #12158 muffler. The shop did the new tailpipes and tips for me.

Of course you could do a whole catback. Magnaflow's retail on a single in/dual out system is over $800. I have around $400 in this system.
