Default Replacing cracked dash.

I finally had an incentive to replace the cracked dash on my '01 2500.
The A/C was not working, just had heat. After removing the dash, found the problem. There is a plastic coupling that mounts on the bottom of the heat/A/C door to the electric control motor. The $10 coupling cracked causing the door to be stuck on the heat side.
Could have been an easy replacement if the door motor could have been removed by just dropping it down but only one of the 3 screws can be removed because of the firewall.
Went ahead and bought a new dash for about $300.Also had to replace the instrument bezel(not cheap!) because of a crack and broken mounting tabs.Brand new mounting clips are about $6 each and there are 13.Had to buy 3(lost them)and going to reuse the others.
Luckily my son can get a discount at the Dodge dealership.

I need to replace my dash as well. Was it difficult to remove the old dash?

I bought the top part of the dash of ebay for about $250. It was not a cover but a dash from another truck that was in perfect condition.
It was from the same year and the same color as my truck.
Now for the front you have to remove the steering column from what I understand. Not sure if I want to go there. Mines not too bad so I will leave that for now.

Not at all.
Have to remove the ash tray, cup holder and front bezel.
Then just remove the screws holding down the dash.
Took less than an hour and I am not mechanically inclined.

Has anyone used the dash covers you can find on ebay or http://www.dashcoversplus.com ? They fit over the old cracked dash. only thing is they don't have new vents they are just cut out, so if your vents are cracked as mine are, shit will still fall in the vents, seems like someone would make a product with dash vents. Or it would be nice if Dodge made a good product....
