Default 2003, 4.7l, 1500 wont start

i left my house. truck started fine. about 30 seconds later the engine just shut off. no noise or anything. so i pulled over. cranked it, wouldnt start.

so its at home now.

- all the fuses look fine.
- theres no CEL code
- it has spark
- i listened underneath and the fuel pump does whine for a few second when you turn the key.
- i sprayed starter fluid and it tried to start. so i guess that means the ignition is all fine.

so im assuming if i have spark and it fires with fluid down the throttle body, then it must be a fuel delivery problem?

i did a lot of reading and some people with similar problems, it ended up being the cam positioning sensor?

any thoughts would be good. also if you have a suggestion of what part or what it could be, could you also let me know where that part can be found on the truck/engine? thx

Well you can have fuel pressure and spark, but if the injectors are not fireing...no boom!

I think you are on the right track with the cam or crank sensor. Most people dont realize that the injectors dont get their signal to fire from the computer, they get it from one of those two sensors.

But lets not get off track. I would recommend checking first compression and fuel pressure (although you hear the pump run, it needs to create and hold pressure for injectors to fire) before changing out parts. How did you test spark?

i checked spark by pulling a plug and turning the engine over and watching it.

i havent check the compression yet, but cant imagine it would be an issue if the engine just shut off instantly?

fuel pressure i will look into checking. ill have to get a gauge somehow...

You can usually rent a compression gauge and a fuel pressure gauge for cheap at the parts store, usually you put a deposit down and you get it back when the tool is returned.

Just occured to me that you need to make sure that fuel is getting into cylinder. You would need a injector tester but the parts stores dont carry them. sometimes you can crank the motor for a few seconds and pull the plugs and see if they are covered in fuel.

If compression, and fuel checks out. You'll have to go more than likely take it to a shop.

Are u the only owner? If not look under the dash and around the steering wheel and stuff like that. Some used car lots will put a vehicle disable on them to keep it from starting when peoe dont pay there bills. If itmalfuncitions truck will shut off going down the road or Iit just want start but when u do checks everything checks out fine. Check to see if it has ine amd remive the fuse to the brain of it. Everything will qwork then. It happened to one of my customers sons. When they are sold the fianace companys do t have those remived all the time. Just try and see

Yeah-look under the cover on top of the combi. I had a gps device there. And the guy who installed it was a idiots helper. Never seen such stupid installation with blank drilled wires.
And no insulation.
Don't remind me on that crap. Needed 2 hours to fix it professionel.
