Default X pipe

hey all...just cureouse on the "x" pipe....what is the point of it? it seems to me that it would constrict the flow of exhaust and isnt that that you are trying to avoid? any thoughts?

the purpose of an X-pipe is to promote scavenging and actually increase exhaust flow, plus, it makes them sound better.

What happens is, the exhaust leaving sucks the exhaust gases out of the other cylinders...or something like that...haha. Thats scavenging.

Also, it equalizes the backpressure in both pipes.

But, it supposed to be worth a pretty good bit of power...torque more-so. I'll be putting one on my truck in the near future, once I get back home.

Before the X-pipe...the craze was the H-pipe, which is still better then no crossover, but, not as good as an X-pipe.

But, they serve no purpose if you don't have true, manifold/header back dual exhaust.

As was said above, the crossover or X pipe promotes exhaust scavenging and equalizes backpressure.

It's a simple thermodynamic principle.

As the exhaust gas cools, the pulse of the gas changes and slows down. The gas pulse lengthens, and looks for a place to "crossover". The pipe allows this crossover, shortens the pulse and keeps the gas moving down the pipe.

It has some benefit to a stock engine and makes a bit more HP and torque through the mid-range. On a built engine it has an even more dramatic effect on mid and high range power.

Do you have true duals? If not then there really is not point. The X pipe helps the backpressure and flow from one side to another. The X pipe goes basically under the middle of the truck before the mufflers. It would be about right after the cats just like where the Y pipe is on our trucks.
