Default What's wrong with stock Gen 4 Air Box??

As I mentioned in other threads it appears the stock Gen 4 air box sucks cool air from the outside of the engine compartment through the inner fender...slap a K&N replacement filter and you should done....right?

Other than sound and the looks of the aftermarket CAI's is there any other benefits for these trucks??

The box and inlet tube are still a bit restrictive, hence the recommends on going with an aftermarket unit. The K&N is a nice up from the stock panel filter but the whole system will only flow so much.

The intake system on my Dakota is a prime example. The accordian style tubing coupled to a resonator makes for a somewhat restrictive induction system.

Saw the same thing on my '99, Randy. I went with a Volant on that one. Still haven't decided on what to put on the '07.

But they don't show one for the Gen4 Rams.

What is did notice though is Mopar Performance is offering Superchargers (Procharger) and Tuners (Diablo Preditor) ??!!!???

Does this imply that these items could be dealer installed and maintain our warranty....or since it's the 'Performance' division it constitutes and non-authorized mod for warranty purposes ?

Any ideas on making the OEM air box less restrictive? I like the fact that the OEM box uses "outside air" rather engine compartment air.

There are aftermarket boxes that do suck in outside air . The K&N units on my vehicles , you build a box around the filter and it keeps the underhood air out .

Please remember, not all of us are taking our trucks to the track.

Whether or not we gain or lose 'a few tenths' in 1320 is probably not as important to a lot of us as keeping the 3-4 (or more) Bens in our pockets,,, perhaps using them to get some appearance mods, chrome, etc etc etc.

Not saying either one is right or wrong, just saying 'different strokes for different folks!'
