It is so good to hear that all is well. You have great looking truck! (Completely impartial comment)

I have a question along the same lines for you experts out there. My truck was parked under a tree for a few days at my apartment and got these weird spots all over the tailgate, chrome bumper, and about 1/3 of the bed. At first I thought it was just water spots from being rained on, but they won't wash off!!! Someone told me to use the clay, but I'm scared to death of making it worse, and I still don't fully grasp when the clay should be used vs. other products like the Auto Glym that worked for RansRAM. Any thoughts? I can try to take a pic if that will help...
Yes, take a picture if you can. From your description, it would sound like sap or another organic material making its way to your finish and etching/staining it. Clay would remove surface contaminants, if that is what it is, and polishing would aid in removing the etching if that is what it is. Clay barring is extremely easy and can be done on non-porous surfaces without any issues, and polishing is just as simple. Start with pictures if you can!

Relieved is an understatement . A picture would help and I suggest that you post this as a new thread so that it gets the exposure it deserves. There are quite a few experts on here that will be able to help you out. Good luck.
