Default Questions on upgrades

I have been considering some upgrades on my 97 Ram, 5.2. One of the main ones was a new cam. I was wanted something about moderate, and not too wild. Im sure I'll have to change pushrods, but I wasnt sure if I would do rockers at the same time. So info on what all a moderate cam would need with it to finish the job would be helpful. I was wondering about changing the rear axle gears also, what ratio is commonly found on a 2 wheel drive model also, and where a good reliable place to get them from would be, the truck has a 12 bolt also. So with that being said and hopefully not making anybody get their flamethrowers out, I did use the search on the cam issue and came back with nothing, which surprised me.

OK, first thing...you need a really good idea of what you want from your cam. Towing power? Sound? Torque? HP? A mild cam will likely retain stock pushrod length but the exact lentgh should be determined once the new valvetrain is in place. Same question applies to your gears. What do you want to accomplish? 3.55 and 3.92 gears are common and there should be a tag bolted to the diff cover that will tell you what's in there. 12 bolt is a GM designation, you should have the corporate 9.25 rear end.
