Cool 1996 1500 5.2 tap in engine pass: side at warm up

Hello everyone good to be a part of this Forum.
Now I would like some input on the subject matter if anyone can give me some advice I would truelly appreciate it very much.
Engine taps on passenger sid after engine warms up. I did notice however tapping goes away when truck is put in reverse.
I changed the Oil and filter today. 5W-30.
as recommended by mechanic. still no change.
I also noticed Blue smoke comeing out of tailpipe which indicates oil consumption thinking back when I removed both intake manifolds there were sighns of oil on valve stems.
this motor is used and was just installed by myself within the past two weeks. could be a clogged injector or colapst lifter any helpfull feedback will be greatfully appreciated.
Best Regard.
Ed.

Hello and welcome to the forum, glad you joined us here! Sorry to hear about your problem, plenty of knowledgeable folks here who can help! Had a similar problem in my Jeep, and it was a collapsed lifter making the tap, but a little Marvel Mystery Oil helped quiet it down a bit. Blue exhaust smoke, possible blow by past the piston rings? I'm sure someone with more experience than myself will be along shortly to help, so in the meantime, feel free to look around, ask questions and join the discussion! Any help you need, just ask and I hope you enjoy the board!

Glad you joined us Ed and welcome to the Z for Rams from Baltimore . Oil consumption problem may be a bad intake belly pan gasket . Notorious problem . While in there , it may be time to possibly replace some lifters and check some vavle springs . If you could go to the top of the page to the User Cp and complete your profile that would be great . Helps us see what you have when your posting a question or comment . Do you have any pictures of your truck ? Have you done any mods or have plans for any ? Any of your friends have Rams ? Tell them about us . We would love to have them . You will find this site is full of a lot of talented people . So if theres any question that you need answered , just shoot away . Talk to ya soon . Tom

Welcome you to the forum,
If the engine has been sitting for a long time....and/or was not properly maintained in it's previous life, you may find the tapping clears up in short while on it's own, if it's a lazy lifter. Without actually hearing it, everything is speculation. If the tapping is light, I would drive it for a couple of days...moderately....and see where it goes from there. Keep a close eye on the oil....both for level and cleanliness. If it gets really dirt real fast, then a number of low mileage oil changes might be in order to help get the gunk out of it. You might even consider replacing the filter once or twice between oil changes to help get the gunk out. Just some ideas....

This forum is full of great looking trucks, and packed with great mod ideas and there are loads of knowledgeable and experienced people here.

AND - We all like pix! Got any to share?

Enjoy the Z!

Removed both intakes? You mean valve covers perhaps? I agree with Tom about the strong possibility that your plenum gasket is blown and causing the consumption issue. The lifters are your most likely source of the tapping noise you hear.
