Default P0442 Evap Control system leak (small)

Pulled my code yesterday and got P0442. My nephew I got the truck from had replaced the gas cap and a piece of hose from the Evap canister that had split.

So I am going to check where he had worked on it to make sure it is correct, but where should I go from there? Never messed with this type of system before.

Just inspect all the associated hoses for splits and cracks. Start at the intake, move on to the solenoid and work your way back to the LDP and then to the tank. 99% of the time that's all that causes a P0442.

Thanks I will do that. Is the larger hose a vacuum line as well?

Are you referring to the hoses between the LDP and canister on the frame rail?

I just found two hoses under my hood that were split and leaking real bad . One was at the firewall on the passenger side , joining two hard plastic lines together and the other was at the pump behind the right headlight . Both were 5/16 hoses .

That is about the size of the one he had worked on (5/16). He just cut the bad section out and hooked it back up. I will buy some hose and start the search. Will it cause any problem if I drive while I am searching for the leak. Not at the same time of course.

No, it will only turn on the MIL. You're safe to drive for the time being.
