Hey fellow rammers,
This might be nit-picky but my drivers-side visor was loose. The up and down movement was okay but side to side wouldn't hold, especially with the window down and driving down the interstate. So I fixed it. Here's a pic of the inside of the mechanism, after removing the screws and lowering:
As you can see in the pic, the flared, metal cyliner with the spring wrapped around it spins inside the plastic housing. The spring loads tension onto the plastic housing and keeps the visor from flapping around. I guess my spring had gotten weak with age and wasn't doing its job, at least not very well.
I racked my brain (which isn't very hard these days
) trying to think of something that would stiffen that up. All I have are greases and other products that will loosen
or smooth out the motion, NOT what I wanted.
Solution? I pried between the spring and the flare with a small screwdriver and wedged in a couple pieces of washer.
Since the flared cylinder doesn't spin within the spring, the tension seems to hold the (lock) washer pieces in there nice and tight, thus applying more tension to the plastic housing. This seems to have fixed the problem, at least for a while.
Hope this helps someone with a similar problem.
