oh wow. i overpowered my last subs and the voicecoils in one of them overheated and i guess warped creating this terrible rattle inside the sub, so i just upgraded from the Comp's to CVR's. Definitely dont want to have to buy a 3rd pair so I need to get the tuning right

IMO you never want to set your gain higher than 2/3 or you will run hot and will lose sound quality

I emailed Kicker and this what they told me

TJ, set the crossover at 11:00 if you were looking at a clock. Then max out the bass on the radio. Start with the gain and bass boost turned down. Turn up radio 75% or if you hear audible distortion stop there. Start to raise the gain slowly. If you hear distortion or it stops getting louder stop. Keep the bass boost below where you set the gain. You probably won’t have the gain past 1:00 if you were looking at a clock. Let me know how it sounds.

Wow... I have never had my gain or bass that high on any setup.

No wonder today's youths keep blowing all their stuff up.
