Default 2500 HD vs 3500 HD

When I bought my 2010 HD 2500 diesel, I was told that the only difference between the 2500 & the 3500 is that the 3500 has one more leave in the springs. I know the engines and transmissions are the same. Is this statement in fact true?

what you were told is basically correct
1500s are rated as 1/2 ton
2500s are rated as 3/4 ton
3500s are rated as 1 ton

It's hard to say when we don't know if you're looking at an auto or manual.

Cummins throws a lot of torque at those transmissions so I would be weary. The motor is just getting broke in at that mileage, but it will outlast automatic transmissions at least 3 times over. I know the two dodges I have are '99 and '01 are both gassers and I've had trans issues with each of them before 150,000 miles. I haven't done much research on their trannys between mine and the new ones to see what they've changed. This is just my experience.
