The joints all fit on the outside of the pipe so they don't represent a restriction at all. Of course what I'm sure you're getting at is that each introduces turbulence to the system and potentially slows air flow. I don't really know how much impedance each one produces but like you said, I'm sure it's better than stock.

As for the inlet temp. My stock setup runs 5 -10 deg F over the outside temp. This is read via a add on non-tuner code reader/meter (the brand name ? (crs)).

Your scanner is also a datalogger then? You mind checking the model when you get a chance? I didn't occur to me the readers would let to track that sort of info (dependant on model of course). I wonder if you could read temp with any of the readers they check out from parts stores.

I am useing ScanGauge2, http://www.scangauge.com/
I do know that my other hand held scanner will read the inlet air temp also.

I think this would be interesting to test with the vehichle at a stop (heat soak, etc.) vs. cruising on the highway. I also wonder how significant the difference is between shielded and unshielded intakes. I would bet once your moving the shielding makes very little difference.
