Default Fake key fob to start truck

Does anyone know if you could have a fake key fob to start the truck and keep the real key fob in your pocket? It'd be really nice to be able to keep the keys in your pocket and just turn something else to start the truck.

Don't we essentially have that already on the 2009/10 models? The keyfob doesn't make any electrical connection, it's just a stub turning the "ignition" switch and something senses that the fob is there.

I was thinking that you could have something to just stick in the "ignition" so you could turn it (and leave it in all the time) and leave the real fob in your pocket.

The easiest way to test this (I would think) would be to have two key fobs; one that's paired and one that's not. Leave the paired one in your pocket and try to start the truck with the unpaired one.

I'd be surprised if it works. The range for the WIN in relation to the FOBIK is very short.

Okay, that's what I was wondering. I know in my Camry (w/ the push-button start) it can be in your pocket, but if the battery in your fob dies you have to hold it up to the button to start the vehicle.

I imagine the Ram might use some type of passive RFID so it would need to be close to the ignition, but I wasn't sure if anyone's tried it.

On this same topic, has anyone seen a high powered RFID gun before? They could probably get your car started with one. I heard they can change the prices of items at stores that use RFID tagging.

Some Chrysler products have this feature. It's called Keyless Go.

I do that sometimes to trick my friends into thinking i can start the truck with my finger, hold the key in your right hand as close to the switch as possible while sticking your finger in the keyhole and turn the switch to start the truck then pull your hand away with the key still in your hand it gets them every time.. it takes some practice.. but it is funny...

i can start my truck from 100 feet away, that usually gets people staring & talking, i scared a couple people away from the Ram, they thought it was their personal resting object
if you don't put the FOB into the ignition slot, i doubt if you will get it out of park

using the wrong FOB doesn't work. You'll get a message in the EVIC that says something along the lines of "wrong key detected".

I mistakenly picked up the key to the wife's Challenger and tried to start my truck with it. It would turn in the hole without a problem, just nothing happened except the message.

I went back in the house, and picked up the correct key, had no troubles after that!
