Default Crazy gas mileage

My 05 5.7 has recently started having some odd gas mileage issues. I can set the cruise, and watch my mileage fluctuate 5-7 mpg, in a as little as one minute. I have always checked my on-the-fly mileage, and kept a general idea of miles/tank, so I know this is out of the norm. All I've done to the truck is cold air (4 months ago), exhaust and EGR valve ( 1 week prior to issue). Any ideas?

Are you watching it with your truck 'puter display? If so, just understand they can fluctuate and be notoriously inaccurate.

I just do it the old fashioned way... mileage divided by fuel consumed.

Yeah, I know they can be off a bit, but I'm definitely losing somewhere. I just hope I can figure it out before it breaks me.

Are you sure you are losing somewhere or are you still going by the truck 'puter?

When the egr in my 05 went bad i also noticed the tbody was filthy and the pcv was also. its a non serviceable pcv nut you can remove it and clean it. use needle nose to twist it out and you will be surprised at the gum in it

MADDOG, I'm definitely burning more fuel.
I'll check my pcv. Maybe that will help.

the pcv should be changed about every 4 or 5 oil changes its 25bucks or so. also make sure you are not over oiling that cold air filter. that will produce what you call gum on t body
