Default Operating temperature

Hey yall,

I've noticed lately that my truck is not getting up to operating temperature. So, I watched it more closely today. It was 90 something degrees today on the way home from work, stop and go traffic. I was watching my temperature and saw a maximum of 185 F. The temp used to get up to 197 F on cold days. I wonder if the thermostat is stuck in the open position?

Are there any tests I can do without pulling the thermo off the engine?

Thanks,

J

If you have an infared thermometer you can check the temps on the water outlet to see if they match the inlet and radiator. It may have a thermostat rationaltiy code in the PCM. I'm not sure if that code will illuminate the MIL. Have your dealer check it and see.

Today I was pulling a little trailer, 1,500 lbs, temp was stayed at around 205 F. I still couldn't see the thermo opening up like I could in the past.

I'll try and get it to the dealership sometime soon to have it checked out.

Thanks guys for your replies.

So...

Haven't been able to take it to the dealership, work has been hectic lately. Now it's running hot. Tonight, I was idling in the driveway, outside temp was 83 F, engine temp was between 205-215. I could actually see the engine temp needle moving up and down.

Went by the dealership today, they were really busy so I'm going to schedule an appointment with them later on.

Going to get the computer flashed for the correct size tires, and fix the TPMS, cooling problems, put on my skid plate that was supposed to come with the truck....should be a happy day. haha.

Yeah, thats the plan. Going to contact Sam from BMC Performance and order up a thermostat, and a catch can while I'm at it.
