Default Mud Flaps or Flares or Both?

Ok, now that I have RootBeer here's the first mod question.

I saw on the paint behind and above the tires what looked like water spray, but since it hasn't rained it is most likely road oil/grime.

So, do I need flaps, flares, or both?

Next, got some good sources?

Neither! Mud Flaps and Fender Flares are hideous (along with steps). If practicallity is your main concern I am the wrong guy to ask (I don't even like steps). I am willing to sacrifice function for form. i like the clean body lines the automotive designers intended without all the extra bells and whistles. Wash and wax often. I have huge nob's that will pick up decent sized rocks. I just make sure and keep everything nice and clean.

Me, personally, I see the advantages to both. I have the flares on my Jeep, which definitely cuts down on the amout of junk that finds its way up the sides of your vehicle where flaps do a good job of minimizing the damage from rock chips. I think both look good and are a great combo to help keep your truck cleaner longer, but that's just my opinion. In my case though, I just don't think they would look good together, which is why I stuck with just the flares on the Jeep and am considering the flaps for my truck, whereas I think both would look good on your truck.

I had mud flaps on the truck until I got the fender flares. The mud flaps would not look good on the truck with the fender flares in my opinion. Don't think there is even a company that makes mud flaps for fender flares. I just have to live with what comes without the mud flaps because I am not removing the fender flares.

For me personally, I have never had flaps, no particular reason. I have always bought flares and I love em. They keep that road debris off my truck, unless I want it there!

Depending on your tire width, a flare would work just fine. If you go with a wider tire, you might want to add a flap to the rear of each wheelwell as the fenders curve inwards and expose more panel to road grime.

I found that my lower panels now have rock chips in them because of the prior tire width and wheel offset I was running. The new tire/wheel combo is sucked in but I still have some areas exposed to material being thrown off the wheel. I'll probably end up doing both but I'm gonna start with flares.

Of course, as was suggested, just wash it more often.

I have a '09 TRX (OEM flares w/o flaps) and a buddy @ work drives an '09 Laramie (no flares or flaps). There is a definite advantage to the flares. My truck always has less road spray (and it doesn't go nearly as high on the door) than his does.

I had plans to add Husky mud flaps (the only brand made to fit w/ OEM fender flares) to mine as well but I haven't got 'round to it yet. Just too many other cool things to do!!!!
