Default West Coast Style VS. Everyone Else

So who prefers west coast style of keeping the body mods tasteful like color matching and debadging over cluttered and over accessorized like ranch and bumpers, mud flaps, steps, fender flares?

This should be an interesting conversation, but in answer to your question, I tend to see my truck as a reflection of me rather than where I live, as my habitat, I would have to say, would be the factor more subject to change in that equation. I am Southern born and raised, so obviously certain themes would be applicable and while the south in general and Louisiana in particular are full of cultural influences, I don't tend to be swayed by any aesthetics other than my own, blaze my own trail, so to speak. Way I figure it, whether I like or dislike what someone does with their truck, I have to remember it's their truck.

Step bars are functional mods for those who don't want to ruin their seat sliding in and out. Mud flaps are functional mods for those who want to protect their investment rather than see it chipped away with every rock. Brush guards are functional mods for those who wish to protect their bumpers from those who, for some reason, cannot see a BIG truck and clip it. Sure, some of it could be seen as vanity, but eventually, form does meet and/or become function.

This is me, this is my truck and my personal opinion, lol, but I, too, would like to hear what others think!

For me, I like the Ram, Big Horn, and Hemi badges that came on the truck. I'm proud of what I chose and want anyone that sees me with my baby to know what I chose. They should be able to figure out the why without asking.

As for color matching things like fender flares, I like the idea. I will do that when I have the $$, but right now I'm just looking at getting something to protect the paint.

Mud flaps to me a also a function thing. Right now I'm considering getting those if the flares don't cure my road oil/grime issue.

The steps I have were installed at the dealer and they had a deal on them I could not pass up.

The chrome clad wheels came on the truck. When I wear out the tires in 50k miles or so, I'll look at different wheels to go with the different tires I select at that time.

The spray in bed-liner is pure function. I've done it to all my trucks and it's well worth the investment.

Other mods/add-ons will be determined one by one.

I gotta agree with Cajun about truck style being a very personal issue. Just to illustrate the point, and don't take this the wrong way cause I'm not knockin, some might consider 37" tires over the top. My point being it's personal.

I have to say I don't understand some of the bodymods in either direction though. I'm not sure who need's 6" fender flares on vehichle that's never been offroad or, at the oppsite extreme, why anyone shaves handles. I just don't get it.

Now if you want to see cluttered, check out the Louis Vuitton Ram from the florida keys. I don't get that one either.

I prefer the clean look so my badges are gone and my flares will be painted body color.

I also need to clean up the grille as it has the chrome layer bubbles. Looks like I am gonna have to strip it and paint it body color, then add some chrome or billet aluminum grille inserts.

haha,, guess I'm truly a blend,, grew up in AZ,, been living in TX for past 15 yrs.
So, debadged "RAM", left "Hemi", only Ram head on tailgate.
Black Mud flaps, all black bull bar, tinted front windows, traded for SLT grill 2 get the black inserts instead of the chrome that came w/ my Sport.
Planned - black out antenna, black out exhaust tips, black steps, yellow calipers & mostly black w/ chrome accent wheels.

I prefer the clean look, lowered to get the right stance and as little chrome as possible. I don't know that I would call that "west coast", just different from those who prefer to drive through Pep Boys with a magnet. I too believe that it's your truck, don't worry about what anyone else thinks, if they don't like then they should build their own the way they want. Below is the Dodge I was going to build, however after my boss died I lost interest in hot rods for a while and sold it. Still would like to build it though.

I am a fan of body match, probably used to it as that is the way my truck came. Huge lifts are for mudding trucks, and show trucks, oh and daily drivers that are on there way to becoming a show truck. With the huge lifts sometimes the off road bumpers fit the look. I would like where its the bumper, but no grill guard or anything, and sprayed to match my truck.
