Default Dextron III in my 46RE??????

I just picked up my truck at the tranny shop after the installation of a Jasper Reman. I noticed the Dextron III bottles beside the lift an asked what fluid they used. The installer said Dextron III.
I then called the Jasper tech line and was told to use ATF+4. He said if they used Dextron that it was not compatable with the torque converter and it would start chattering.
I asked the installer for the instruction sheet that came from Jasper. Sure enough, it specified ATF+4, period.
It's a good thing I have the 3 year warranty. It's already chattering after only about 50 miles.
I think I'll look for a new tranny shop.

So, anyone installing a new trans, specify ATF+4.

ATF+4 is awesome tranny fluid . When I first got my Snap on Scanner , I hooked it up to a Buick LeSabre for a torque convertor clutch shudder problem . The scanner recommended installing Chrysler ATF fluid . So whats that tell ya about the fluid .

I think I'll go to Express Lube tomorrow and have ALL the Dextron removed and replaced with ATF+4.

Anyone have any experience with the Express Lube trans fluid replacement procedure?

I would take it back to the installer and have him do it at his expense .

I did. He drained the pan through the fill tube and removed about 4 quarts. Then he put 6 quarts back in. I took it home and drained the excess 2 quarts.

Would you take your truck back to that shop???

You need a complete system flush with ATF+4. If the chattering continues, that shop owes you a new transmission.

Yes, he is a Jasper preferred installer, but my shadow will never darken his door again.

I'll pay for the trans flush and refill with ATF+4. Was just curious if anyone had any experience with the Express Lube type evacuation. I haven't heard anything, pro or con.

I would still contact Jasper and rat him out . I haven't heard of Express Lube but you can drop the pan again , flush the lines and cooler . Years ago if the convertor didn't have a drain plug , mechanics would drill and tap the convertor and install a 1/8 " pipe plug . The convertor holds quite a bit of fluid . I'm not sure your gonna find anyone nowadays who will do that .

Just have a complete system flush done. It will get all the fluid including what's in the converter.
