Great experience at the local Express Oil Change shop. The mechanic was very knowledgable, flushed the system of the Dextron and installed the Synthetic ATF+4. Cost me $160, but well worth it. On the way home my truck shifted smoothly into 3rd at 35 instead of 50 and the chatter has subsided.

Glad to hear it. I'd see about getting reimbursed by the sorry bunch that installed the wrong fluid to begin with.

Oh, he is convinced the Dextron is okay and that I "just don't understand".
I do feel for others who trust him with their trannies, but live with his mistakes.

What you "don't understand" is that ATF+4 is synthetic and much more costly than Dexron III. ATF+3 was originally specified but it's no longer made. ATF+4 is backward compatible and the recommended fluid for your transmission. I'd take that sorry S.O.B to small claims court, file a complaint with the BBB, notify Jasper and tell everyone you can what they've pulled with you.

It's a small town and bad news travels like wildfire around here. I've already spoken with the 2 guys that recommended him and the real mouth around here, the MAILMAN.

Sounds like you're off to a flying start. That's just poor judgement and business practices on his part. I guess the cost difference in the ATF+4 is worth more to him than his reputation.

My truck is now either missing or the trans is chattering, I can't quite tell the difference. It is fine through 3rd, but in 4th or OD it starts to stutter. I get no error codes.

I guess I need a definition of torque converter chatter, and how to detect it.

I just had this awful feeling that the trans shop that installed the reman Jasper, swapped converters on me and that is why he was so insistant on Dextron III in the 46RE. Is that possible????

What you do mean byu swapping converters? They kept the one that came with the Jasper and stuck your old one back in?

After I used the local Express Lube to flush my transmission it was about 3,000 miles later it went out. I would take it to the dealer for the tranny flush. This is for all the others thinking about using Express Lube.

Remerson228, Nothing that trans shop did would surprise me, but going forward I just need to determine if the "stutter" in high gear is transmission or other.
Still no misfire codes and all plugs look good. I changed the plenum gasket earlier this year. Installed new rotor button, distributor cap, and plug wires yesterday. That had no effect, it still stutters in high gear only, which makes me think it might be the trans, especially since I get no codes.
Not sure what to do next. Any suggestions?
Thanks for all your help.
