Default Need some direction...

Ok, so I know this is probably something that has been discussed several times throughout this forum, but I need some direction here...

I am looking to get the most out of my new Ram for the best possible price, CHEAP! I am considering adding a throttle-body spacer, CAI, and exhaust system, the only problem is I do not know which ones will do the most for the 5.7. I know that on my '04 Chevy with the 5.3L, the Gibson exhaust and the Volant CAI provide the most bang for the buck. I am also aware that not all manufacturers are the best for all makes.

Any help or suggextions on this would be greatly appreciated.

One set up I have seen that seemed pretty decent was:

Street & Performance Airmax Spiral Flow Air Intake
Street & Performance Helix Power Tower Throttle Body Spacer
Magnaflow 3" Pipe, Rear Side Exit Exhaust

Any thoughts on this?

You can get a K&N intake off of ebay for around 250-275 and my friend just had meineke weld up some magnaflows cat back for 400 and thats like 150 cheaper than a magnaflow kit. as far as the spacer goes save the $$$$ and take your wife or gf out to dinner!!.......or put it twords a tuner. I had a helix power tower and its being used as a paperweight now.

Along with the intake and exhaust, I'd look at getting a programmer also. That way, you'll have the 3 best 'bang for your buck' mods

I agree with what's been said:

1. Volant intakes work well on the HEMI. So does the AFE Stage I or II. If you want an open filter type arrangement, AirAid or K&N are good brands to look at unless you want to fab up your own pipe and collars.

2. You don't need to go full catback to get some benefits. Just take out the muffler you have and go with a single in/dual out unit or a single in/out unit, depending on whether or not you want two pipes out the back. Gibson, Flowmaster and Magnaflow are good ones. I prefer the sound of the Magnaflow mufflers.

3. Forget about the TB spacer. You would be spending money with no return benefit.

4. Definitely get a programmer to take advantage of that more air in, more air out condition.

Wow, that nks for the info. Maddog, you say that Gibson and Volant are good. I personally prefer the sound of the Gibson. Any ideas on what kind of gains I might expect in a Volant/Gibson setup on the 5.7? Also, a buddy of mine who has the 6.1 swears by his Predator programmer, is this a good choice as well?

you might get 5-10RWHP with just the intake/exhaust combo, with the predator you'll be optimizing ALL 3 and can expect between 25-40RWHP depending on which octane tune you use. The predator is by far the most recommended programmer on here, I use one, as does maddog. The Superchip cortex is also a great programmer, you just need to decide if you're planning any custom tuning or tearing into the top/bottom end. If you are looking to do more than just exhaust/intake/tuner/headers then you want the predator.
