Default Whining ride

I have a 98 ram 1500, 318. I have a whining sound coming from under the truck. It whines up and down as speed increases and decreases. I have put the trans in nuetral and it still whines. Any ideas?
Thanks

I should add that it doesn't increase with engine rpm and i don't hear it when stationary.

I would bet its either the belt or the tensioner pulley, or both.

Sounds like your rear diff isn't happy. Check the fluid level and condition for starters.

I would have to agree , check the differential . Are you 2wd or 4x4 ? If you could go to the top of the page to the User Cp and complete your profile that would be great . Helps us see what you have when your posting a question or comment .

Definitely check your differential lube. How long has it been since it was changed?

I changed the fluid 10 months ago.
I am pretty new at all this so please forgive but, what kind of differential is this? There are several different ones when looking at lists. Dana 60,70, 80 and is chrysler rear ends same as dodge?

Okay, I've checked the diff. Fluid was ok, and i didn't see any signs of wear on the gears. Not sure if the noise I heard was a grinding noise when turning the tires. If it was, would that be the bearing?
