Default Volant Question

I've decided to install a CAI on 2010 HEMI and am looking hard at the Volant.

Was wondering if the that cool polished stainless top cover was actually a screen or is it a solid piece...can anyone shed some light?

It's solid and it's plastic with an overlay on the three systems I've used.

Volant is good stuff.

I like the enclosed air plenum systems with the internal filter, like the Volant or AFE Stage I & II units.

It's pretty much a toss up between the two. As I mentioned, I've used a Volant system on 3 different vehicles and was never disappointed with the fit and function. On my 2003 Yukon I got one that had a scarred top plate. I called Volant customer service, described the problem and they sent me a new one out that same day, at no charge.

The old one now hangs on the wall in my garage along with a few other items of auto memorabilia...

How HP gain did you notice with the Volant?

I didn't measure it on a dyno. The intake was done at the same time I did an exhaust to realize the benefits of better airflow in and better airflow out.

What I noticed was:

1. Better throttle response - all vehicles.
2. A slight improvement in MPG. It wasn't a huge gain but in steady state cruising on my 300C SRT8 it was almost 2 mpg on an extended trip compared to the stock system on a similar trip.
3. Increased induction noise - all vehicles.
4. Cooler highway engine temperatures on two vehicles with stock thermostats. On the 300, I also put in a 180 degree tstat and that made a huge difference, down 15 - 18 degrees when cruising at highway speeds.
