Exclamation The Dealer has me scared to touch my truck

Hi all,

I am a brand new truck owner and after tons of test driving I went with the 2010 Dodge 1500 Crew Cab SLT. Nothing fancy but I love it so far. When I was buying the truck the dealer said anything that wasn't dealer installed can void your warranty, so now I am scared to touch the truck. I wan't to install a hitch and nerf bars but am paranoid to do so. Anyone come across the same problem or have any advice???

Side question: If I buy aftermarket nerf bars are the mounting holes already there or do I have to drill?

Thanks!

I'm calling bullshit. You most certainly install your own hitch and step rails if you so choose without voiding your warranty. That being said, if anything you install causes a failure, Chrysler doesn't have to warranty the failed part.

If you buy Westin e series step bars they have the hardware and instructions on how to mount them to your truck . The truck already has holes in the body underneath the cab for the bars . Not sure on other manufacturers nerf bars as i have only bought and used the westin ones. Also as Remerson228 said i call BS on the warrenty info . I asked the service tech about installing a flowmaster and nerf bars and what not and he said as long as i didn't touch the cats the muffler would be fine . The nerf bars and hitch shouldn't cause you any grief at all ; I would make sure you get something that does bolt on though so they can't pull a you drilled a hole in it and messed it up on you .

I bought aftermarket nerf bars and they lined up with no problem. Didn't have to drill any holes. Just make sure when you pick a pair they Are specific for your truck. Most web sites will ask you to punch in your year and make and model they will show you witch ones will fit without drilling

I noticed this was your first post, so welcome aboard. Looks like Remerson228, or Randy, has this under control. Don't forget to stop by the "Newbie" section and get your fair share of "hello's"!

BTW, if there's another dealership you can use, you might give them a try for any service needs. I don't care for the way your current dealer is spoon feeding you that crap.

Wow, thanks everyone for the fast replies. That is a great idea to take it to a different service dealer. The prices for the hitch and nerf bars are astronomical at the dealer and I wanted to save some $$$ by doing it myself. I think it was mostly dealer scare tactics to have me purchase everything through them.

Just a little word on the nerf bars , make sure you purchase stainless steel ones . The regular steel ones will rot away . Stop by the newbie section and introduce yourself .

Pretty common to hear that from dealerships out here... gotta have us do it or that's it for your warranty, which, as has been previously stated

You can install anything that doesn't take the vehicle out of factory specs. No CAI, exhaust are fine... tuners WILL void warranty if discovered. Cosmetic additions can not void warranty unless you have to do some serious modification to make it fit. Nerf bars, tonneau covers, etc are just fine.
