Default How to install Morimoto Projectors in your 4th Gen Headlights

This weekend's project! Installing some morimoto bi xenon projectors into my 2010's quad headlights.

So, what do you need for the install?
  • Headlights (quads or duals, doesn't matter). I purchased a new set for this project, as I didn't want to be without if issues pop up
  • Morimoto Bi Xenon H1 projectors - I got mine from Hahn at 3B Specialties
  • Dremel
  • Heat gun or oven
  • screw drivers........to bust into the headlight
  • patience.....LOL

I took lots of pics, so........here they are!

First off, here's what you are starting with:

Crack open the headlight! I used a heat gun. I won't go into how to crack it open......there are a few write ups around for that - let just say that its not the easiest thing. This is the part I hate the most.

Remove the stock diffuser thingy (there is a tab on the back, flip that up and pull this out). you can see it in the second pic.

The Morimoto does not fit into the hole where the H11 bulb goes, so you need to open that up a smidge. A dremel with a sanding disk works great, and you don't need to take much off - a hair all the way around. I am cautious, so I taped up the bowl before I started cutting.

Done!

Next, you need to route the bi xenon's cutoff solenoid wires. These are very thin and will fit through the hole left when you removed the diffuser. (there is a connector on them when you get them, but I don't have a similar connector.....so I cut it off! works better to route the wires anyway).

The kit comes with a few connectors:

The one in the middle is a rubber ring, its used to butt up against the chrome bucket, and helps hold it tight, to prevent movement of the projector when you are driving. I also used the 3 tabbed connector on the left (it goes on the back and acts as a mounting plate that the nut butts up against).

Projector installed.

Back of projector, showing the 3 tabbed ring and the nut that holds the projector on. (note the 2 solenoid wires coming out too)

Next, head out to the truck.

If you don't already have HIDs, install your ballasts. Here's where I put mine:

Put the headlights in, and fire 'em up! Check your cutoff, make sure its not looking stupid!

Also make sure your high beams work!

Take the lights back out, head back in the house and put the shroud on the projector.

Time to clean up the bowls, insert and lens. Of course, I used my favorite!

Now......seal 'em up! You can use RTV or butyl tape. I decided to use butyl tape this time..........hope it works! LOL

Finished product.

Sit back.......have a few beers.

They aren't up to the quality that I would want on my truck. I bought them off of a guy on another forum, and I am waiting on a refund. BUT, I'll sell them for what I have in them (275 + shipping). Understand that all of the issues I had with the lights are listed below, and they are "as is".

Here's what I found wrong with them (none of which was mentioned prior to purchase, pics looked great that I got from him!):
- chrome on the inside has black splotches all over it.
- mounting tab broken on 1 light
- poor packaging (which probably caused the one above......)
- projector loose in housing
- shroud's chrome is already coming off
- dirt on the inside of the lens, can't clean that off
- just downright dirty........I'm sorry - clean the parts before you sell them (not a deal breaker, but come on)

and here's the pics I took the night I got them (last Monday):

...

you will also need to take the plug from your quad lights to use - it didn't come with it (and I knew that, which wasn't an issue for me).

... also what shrouds you used?

Any idea if these used ones are a sign of things to come after some use/mileage(or sign of a sloppy install)? Thanks again for the post.
