Default couple questions on my new 2010 Sport

I brought her home last night, and the more I think about it the more I want a Chrome grill instead of the colored one. I think that I can live with the colored bumpers, but that center grill I just think needs to be chrome. How much will one of those run?

Also the radio - I have the 430 - it is okay, but I really really wanted the built in navigation. I have read (and someone replied to my newbie intro post) that the stock one was just not very good. So are there any suggestions for an aftermarket one? I was looking at the Alpine, but was not sure if that was way to go or not.

Bed - I was going to get the spray in linex unless someone has a better spray that they suggest.

And one thing I have noticed, I have had all Chevy trucks until now, never had the itch to really mod anything on them....all of a sudden I get this Ram Hemi and it is like the modding devils are calling my name.....

any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.

I have the Alpine radio with associated amp and sub-woofer and speakers. Lets just say its concert time in my truck whenever I'm in it. I have loaded 948 songs on the hard drive and have not listened to a radio station since.

I also have the Nav system. The user interface is horrible. They are coming out with a Garmin based system either this month or next. I don't know what it would cost to have it put in. The Garmin will start coming out in the Cherokees so I'm going to keep in touch with my dealer and when a Cherokee comes in with the new Nav system, I'm going to check it out.

The chrome grill should be easy enough to get from the dealer or maybe even aftermarket.

As for the mod itch, I look at Rams like Harley's. Its never yours until you mod it.

Hi Brian - thanks for the reply

You are right - good analogy - like a harley

I was looking at the after market Alpine - I should have noted that in my post - my apologies.

Do you know if the factory one is the same just branded different?

After market NAV systems, with iPod interfaces, can be had from Alpine, Pioneer (Garmin based NAV) and Kenwood.

They all pretty much do the same things. None have a HD so you'd have to go with an iPod for music playback. They all have provisions for satellite radio. Some can support a CD changer (Alpine).

With any of these head units, if you have the steering wheel controls and want to preserve use of those, you'll want to check out the PacAudio adapters for this function. Also, there is a CAN BUS adapter for an aftermarket head unit to work with your stock harness.

Don't know. Here's my issue with the stock Nav system.

1. When entering an address it prompts you for the street first and you must know whether you want E, W, N, S. Then you put in the street number. Bassackwards if you ask me. It is not intuitive.

2. It does not recognize POIs close by unless you get lucky and enter them just perfectly. I was looking for Schucks the other day, it listed some where the closest was almost 300mi away. When in fact there was one about 3mi away. It also has a very limited list of POI categories.

3. When navigating it starts out with "follow the road". Doesn't tell you which way to turn unless you look at the map which means taking your eyes off the road. Voice prompts should be accurate.

Its just a general PITA to use. Garmin on the other hand is very user friendly. After I posted about the Garmin I called my dealer and they don't have any info on the new system yet. May not for another month.

As for the Alpine in my truck, I love it. I listen to Rock, classical, and country on it.

Thank you Maddog! I will now consult the google to translate the parts I did not know

Is there a vendor here that you recommend for those? I do want to preserve the controls on the steering wheel.

Thank you Brian - very well constructed break down of the Nav system. I will take that in to account.

I am guessing that the Aftermarket Alpine would be the same since it is run off the NAVTEQ maps?

As I understand it, Navteq provides map for several manufacturers of GPS systems including Garmin.

The key is the user interface. Only way to find out for sure is to get your fingers on one and play with it.
