Default Annoying exhaust noise

I have a 2007 Ram 1500 with a Hemi. I have the stock exhaust system on it and under a load I am getting a "ticking" noise combined with a faint whistle. If I rev it up with it in park I can still hear the whistle a very little bit but no "ticking" noise. If I place the truck in gear put my foot on the brake and give it a little gas to simulate a load I get no unusual noise at all. I have had exhaust leaks that have done this so I have checked for an exhaust leak by having a friend block the tailpipe and listened under the truck but I hear no leaks, I even temporarily plugged the condendsate weap holes in the muffler and resonator and still have the noise. I'm wondering if this may be normal due to thin wall exhaust piping? Or has anyone else had this problem? I just bought the truck so I have nothing to compare it to, my 2001 Ram was tight and had no unusual noises at all. Any ideas would be a big help, it's driving me crazy especially with the windows down.

did you buy your truck new or used. if its used maybe you might have a throttle body spacer in which can cause that whistle noise.

Sounds like a leaky exhaust manifold or gasket that is starting to go bad and leak.

are you runnin a cai with a throttle body spacer (some cai's have you install one for fitment)? especially with a stock exhaust you can hear a cai moreso which means you'll hear the valve train more...and tb spacers whistle.. my truck makes a racket under the hood but it's due to the cai and the resonance the valve train produces through it..

08HemiRam,
I did find out something about it. I posted under "Annoying exhaust noise(mystery solved). To sum it up, per a very good Dodge mechanic some of the late model Hemi's had a problem with the secondary ignition (you know the 2nd plug we have in the cylinder head) and a small amount of unburnt fuel will escape only to be ignited just prior to the converters the resulting "pop" causes the "tickin" noise. He said that it is normal and that he has been driving his for I believe 90k without insident. You are right it is VERY annoying, he said Dodge hasn't done anything about it because it is not a big enough problem to them. I guess they have done a pretty good job putting out the propaganda that all the BS noises this engine makes are "normal". If had wanted a engine with a lot of "normal noises" I would have bought a diesel. I do love Dodge products and aways have but it makes you wonder if Chevy and Ford can make engines that produce 300 to 400hp and are quiet why can't Dodge? Oh well, the cold weather will be here soon and I'll have the windows rolled up....problem fixed.

i have the same problem and it drives me nuts!!! I had it before the CAI and flowmaster exhaust. Took it to the dealer 2 times and they said they couldn't find a leak. i was thinking of getting headers hoping to eliminate the problem and input on cheap / quality headers??

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I've been searching high and low on this irritating noise. I have driving around with my windows down because of it... my truck sounds like crap driving past cars or fences while I'm accelerating. I can't recreate it revving the truck in neutral or power braking it next to a fence so it's been extremely hard for me to diagnose.

The ignition of the unburnt fuel on exhaust stroke sounds likely, but I'm wondering if anyone has found a solution. I've heard from another person that adding headers made the noise louder
