Default Help!!!!

I have a 97 2500 with 5.9. The problem started out with two surges the check engine light flashing very fast. Truck backfires (sounds like a machine gun). Pulled cades P300,P301,P302,P303,P304,P305,P306,P308. Already did tune up minus fuel filter. Cleared codes, truck still misses and smells rich but now no codes. Finally light came on again got code P1391 (cam and or crank sensor). Hayes book only goes to P804, talked to dealer and was told PCM. Replaced PCM with no change. Now I got code P320 (no distributor reference) but Hayes book shows for diesel engine. Any ideas what this could be?

first thing i would check in the condition of the engine harness, if you have a bad ground, or melted wires it will throw all kinds of codes, check all connectors make sure all terminals are seated properly into the houses(plugs).

since you did a tune up did you remove the Distributor cap or the whole distributor, the cam position sensor is located there, its a two way plug that should only go back in one way, but with force you can plug it wrong, or there might be a chance something fell into the plug and is making connection between the terminals.

throw that damn Hayes book away and get a Chilton and i take back that PCM and get your money back. i hope this help you narrow it done, if not fix the problem.

They won't refund the PCM, so you can forget that. The best way to pinpoint the problem is with a lab scope so you can monitor the waveforms for irregularities and pinpoint which sensor is causing the problem. I agree on getting a Chiltons manual but I wouldn't toss the Haynes; everyone needs a good doorstop.
