Short belts have been the norm in the Mustang camp since the 80's. Really common track mod. Like I said, just wasn't representative of how the car was normally set up so I didn't do it and eventually went to the manual rack. Pulled the entire belt on the dyno one day though for $hits and giggles and gained nearly 25+hp and that was on a car w/ a full set of underdrive pulleys already.

..of course it was common an old school and the way our setup was on the hemi's it was pretty logical..no one reinvented the wheel here except no one was tryin it on our trucks til some guys before me on another forum started doin it back in 05..

but it goes to show you how most guys with rams are still newbs to this stuff at the track. get out to the track and they see this stuff and are surprised that it can be done... even more surprised when we took the belt off a friends truck altogether so that we could squeeze out every last tenth in the 1/4 (his stock block qc holds both the na an spray records that we know of)

Quick way to pick some some hp for sure. Keep it from idling too much and it won't get hot enough from the one run to hurt anything.

Maybe that's why there's so many newbies in the Ram ranks. I would MUCH rather push that old RCSB '97 Dakota I had than the current rig!

NICE! Had planned to eventually carb my old one and, at some point, move to a 5.9L. Was gone by '99 though and I was back into Mustangs.

how'd it run w/ the 5.9L?

Can make some nice power w/ the 5.9L but the damn stock HEMI heads are as good as the aftermarket stuff for the Magnum. Chuck a cam and a carb on the HEMI and instant 450+hp. Would run REAL nice in a little Dakota w/ some gears.
