Angry OEM Remote Keyless Entry for 2007 Ram 1500?

Hi all,

Short story: I was laid off in January and decided to start working for myself. I've gotten to the point where I need a truck and found a 2007 Ram quad cab at the local Dodge dealer. My first question to him was does it have keyless entry. He replied yes so I looked at the truck and ended up buying it (not having it would have been a deal breaker for me).

When I picked it up, he said they couldn't find the key fobs but gave me a couple of keys (one of which a dog and chewed on). Salesman said to come in the next week and they'd set me up with the fobs. Emailed him the next Wednesday, he never replied so I came into the showroom on Friday. He says he's really busy and they don't have the fobs in stock but they'll order them and I can come back on Tuesday (today) to get them. I e-mail him again yesterday to remind him I'll be in and when I get there, after looking around, talking to some people and looking at my keys, he says that my truck wasn't set up for keyless entry (and was verified my the VIN). This completely pissed me off because the salesman either knew it and lied or didn't bother following up on this last week when he should have.

I remind him (with a printed out email) that he told me the truck had keyless entry. He says that they'll take care of it at their cost and now wants me to drop off the truck Thursday so someone from a stereo shop can pick it up and install an aftermarket keyless entry. I did a little research and it seems that after market keyless entry systems can cause problems with the security/computer down the line.

My question - is the OEM remote keyless entry simply a module that plugs into the existing truck someplace - that is, can the OEM RKE be added to a truck that doesn't currently have it? Are they just doing the aftermarket RKE because it's cheaper for them? I'd like the Dodge keyless system but want to make sure it's available before I take this up the ladder at the dealership.

Thanks,

Steve

Personally, I'd take the email and go see the General Manager at the dealership.

+1

Talk to the General manager. If he/she is not helpfull call Dodge's customer service number and report the dealership directly to dodge. Keep the email they sent and provide that to the customer service rep.

Include all email traffic where he mentions they have to order key fobs...etc.

Another thing you can do is go to places like Edmunds and write a review on the dealership on there so other people who are researching the place will know.

So does anyone know if the OEM can be installed after the fact?

Yes, power locks. I'm just waiting for the return call from Dodge to tell me the same so I can go to the dealer with that info.

Thanks all.
