no spark????
|
Hey everyone....i'm driving a 98 ram v8 5.2L, 168,xxx miles. I was driving fine all day yesterday w/ no problems. This morning I went to go to work and it wouldnt start. Was thinkg it was something related to the fuel pump because the guy i bought it from had last week said he was having problems turning it over if it sat too long. However, checked the spark plugs and they were terrible looking. On top of that....I got no spark. So, my question is. What all should I being troubleshooting here. Myfather -in -law suggested the plug wires, distributar cap, but how do I test these? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks......D.C. Also, had just had a new serpentine belt and tension wheel put in, and some A/C work done as well....new a/c fuse and recharge. not sure if any of that would matter.

Could be a crank sensor, coil, ASD relay, wiring problem, distributor problem. Have you checked the PCM for codes yet?

Have to ask, what procedure did you use to determine that you had no spark?

well....kinda home remedy thing i've seen done before. put a screwdriver in the sparkplug wire and held it near the engine block while someone turned the ignition. got no spark.....kinda caveman-ish i know but my father-in-law swears thats how you check.

The PCM is the Powertrain Control Module and it's in the engine compartment. As for checking the spark with a screwdriver, it's ok for the older distributor systems but not a good idea with coil pack systems.
