Did they replace the tensioners and guides as well when they did the chains?

yes they did everything, it all comes in kit form from from dodge.
Have been looking into re-manufactured engines and when I questioned them about any improvements that have been done he talked about the valve seats. Says the tapping may be from the worn valve seats as a inferior material was used but they now use a better material and press them in with a press made for this particular head. I feel if were the valve seats than this tapping would not go away, but would remain. Is it possible it only goes away when the engine warms up and the seats expand and conform to the valves.
May this is what they meant.

It's been my experience that worn seats are more from dirty air entering the engine and/or lack of intake system maintainence than a material problem.

ramerson- thanks for all the reply's. The engine runs very quit after the noise goes away so perhaps I will just deal with it. Maybe I will get a remote start so I will not have to here it. I have a buddy of mine and I made him listen to his 4.7 start up noise and he said he never noticed because he always used his remote. He was happy with his remote until I chimed in. Just a little funny story.

I'm having a similar problem w my 08. Got it with 62000 on it. Had oil changed at dealership within the first week. Went w maxlife 10w40 at 65000 and every oil change since. im at 80000 now, when i first start her up i get that tapping that sounds like a lifter, but goes away after engine has warmed up. if i drive for a while it seems not to be there but then sometimes it is after hopping out going in store and cranking back up.

Default Reedy noise under load.

Hi guys, mine has had regular oil changes and runs like a champ but in the last several thousand miles is startigng to have a mild rattling chatter (sounds kind of like lifters) which is a little louder if I add gas when accelerating. It isn't very loud and doesn't sound like a major tapping or anything but as I said it has become slightly more pronounced lately. How likely is it this is an exhaust leak?

Thanks!

I mean in both cases. That's what a mechanic told me this week.
