To select the gears in tow/ haul +/- just move your gear shifter side to side when in "D" . That's how it works in mine. My shifter is on the console.

It does'nt matter if your in Tow/Haul or just in Drive. Just move the shifter left or right to shift up or down

Does not matter if your in D or D T/H mode
You should still be able to select your gear by going L-R
If you can't, its back to the dealer you go

I beleive what Tow/Haul mode does it puts it in 5 to turn off the MDS and it also holds the gear longer than normal. you will also notice the RPM's stay higher too when driving at about 2000RPM. When you slow down it shifts to a lower gear to help breaking. To be able to shift in different gears you have to put it in the +/- mode.

Question

Just to clarify, I have a column shifter. I re-reread the owner's manual again and am still trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I put the truck in D and tried the +/- on the shifter without any results and pressed the tow/haul button and tried the +/- without results. I guess I either have something wrong with the truck or I need to do something different.

Unless anyone has some insight to what I'm doing wrong my next step will be to call Dodge.

Thanks,

Pete

I just tried mine today out of curiosity. It works as Revolter has stated. Press Tow/Haul and you can still move shifter to the +/- mode. At this point you can manually change gears with a push left or right. If you not able to do this I suggest a trip to the dealer is in order.

The +/- button on the shifter should change the display to show the highest gear the trans will shift to.....irregardless of whether or not you are in tow/haul. If it does not do this, you have warranty which fixes it for Free!

Hehe....my buddy just took his 'Really Good Deal' to the dealer for a new trans......it's gonna cost him $5000 by time the dust settles. He could have bought a 'New' truck with warranty for $8000 more than his 'Good Deal'. I just can't bring myself to console him.....he hassled me for a month about buying a new truck just for the warranty.

On a Column shifter in Tow/Haul mode can't you just use the +/_ button on the column to toggle the shifts if you like.

Talking

i was informed about 40 days ago, just before my cross country trip, by Randy & others

the new vehicles trannies shift selection is as follows:
position 0ne truck uses only first gear,
position 2 starts in 2nd & will stay in 2nd, up until a certain engine RPM is hit, then it shifts itself to 3rd, so that you can Not destroy the engine
positions 2 thru 5 is the same as manual selection, if the 5 is selected & not moved, FIRST gear is not used, you take off in position 2 & it will shift up as normal.
Using this method, you are in control of your shifts, up to the point that the computer senses Maximum Overload Will Rogers.

Once position [U]SIX[/U} is selected, again FIRST gear is NOT used, you start off in 2nd & it shifts itself at preset RPMs, this is computer controlled

you can chose to manually shift your transmission like a B & M hydro stick, going from position 1, then 2, then 3 etc., or go from position 5, down to 4, 3, 2, 1, but,
once 6 is selected, the transmission is in charge, this also allows the MDS to start functioning

if a tuner chip is installed, the shift points can be changed

if i inserted any incorrect info, feel free to correct it, we can't have any one doing bad things to their vehicle because they took this as gospel

Agree with GT Yankee, Tow/Haul mode stops the truck from going into MDS and keeps the vehicle in 5th gear. This will reduce the load on the engine. As for not being able to manual shift while in tow/haul mode I am going out for a burn in the truck and I will post the results.
