Default Bumper Type Question...

Okay, first post/question, so be gentle!

I have not yet had installed or installed a hitch, but my mother is hell-bent on me pulling out a shrubbery that she has. I have a 2009 1500, and it has the hole in the bumper for the assembly. Can I loop the rope or chain through there? Or, is there something else that I can or should be hooking to or looping around? I do not have tow hooks in the front yet, so that is not an option.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

I'd loop it over or through a frame hole at the rear and make sure you put a rag around the chain where it passes under your rear bumper.

Don't loop it over the bumper bracket to the frame. It may bend the bracket and your bumper will end up being crooked or dropped to one side.

Don't put it in the hole in the bumper...you'll scratch the bumper and the hole wasn't put there for that.

Just crawl under the truck and find a spot on the frame you can hook into, probably near where you would mount a receiver hitch to the frame rail.

Thanks. I will take a look!

PS- Hitch is on the "to do" list, but the step bars were more of a priority (the 5 year old needed to get a running start) and the tri-fold cover was a priority too. Those are done, so time to move on!

If you haven't done this yet, get a tow strap with loops on the ends instead of a chain. Then get a clevis shackle that will fit inge of the holes on the frame. Chains can be dangerous if you haven't worked with them before, they can break and send metal parts flying. I saw one go through the window of a caterpillar truong to pull out a stump, nearly took the drivers head off. A strap is nylon, if it breaks it is pretty harmless.

I would take that (sheet metal) bumper off the reinforcement will stay and loop it around that the bumper is only 6 bolts and 3 connections I can have mine off in 3 minutes much better than bending that bumper..
