Default New Gears

Hey Everyone. I have a 2005 Ram 4x4 5.7 What I have been thinking a lot about is new gears. I have a superchips cortex and with it my first gear goes to about 51 second gear to 90, its crazy! I have the 3.73 gears right now. I have seen youtube videos of fast rams and you can tell they have different gears, but i have never been able to get ahold of any of them to ask what they are. I was wondering if anyone here has changed their gears out, and if so what gears, how did it improve performance, and if you can like at what mph the gears shift. Sorry its a lot to ask lol just curious, also with a 4x4 how does that work with gear changes? Like rear and front axle? THANKS!!

4x4 wise, whatever you do the rear, you must do to the front.

Going with gears like 4.11 or higher will certainly give you a quicker (not faster) truck. You will have to shift a lower speed.

Right thats what i had in mind. I had 3.23 gears on my Trans Am and switched to 3.73 and wow huge difference! My gears are shorter but its worth it to me, i dont go 120 all the time i mess around usually in the 0-90 area unless in on the highway. As far as MPG goes, ill sacrafise a little for a quicker truck lol. But at the same time i dont wanna be at 3,000 in 4th at 70 lol You think that 4.11 would be about right? I had a 2001 Ram 4x4 it had 4.10 and they seemed about right, i can def tell a difference with this trucks for sure

I have 3.92 in mine but I don't race it either. 4.11 used to be a big deal in drag racing, now they are past history.

Keep in mind the higher gear you go with, the lower speed top end you'll get, but will get you out of the hole quicker.

So I'd say 3.92 or 4.11 should do fine. Lets see what others have to say.

if you have 3.73's now, then 4.10's is a logical choice. I wouldn't do 4.10's if you had 3.92's (too close). another factor is what size tire's are you runnin? over 33" and i would consider 4.56's...stock size, 4.10's... I run 4.10s an love it

I've asked around to some well respected guys and they all verify what you read here. 4.10 if you want to lower a 3.73 and 4.56 if you want to lower a 3.92.

I'm in the boat of running big tires and now needing the extra torque that I didn't need with the stock tires, so 4.56 is the way I'm going to go.

If you don't have a limited slip now is the time to put one in.

Not sure how much top end you need but when I use to run 4.56's with 285/50-20's, I was still able to turn 150 mph (per gps)...it got there much quicker an smoother then the 3.92's I originally ran..

I have 275/60/20 now but I want to eventually put a lift on my truck and get at least 35's... U think 4.10 or 4.56 would be better... Also with 4.56 u know about how much that's gonna Jack up my rpms on 4th?

Anyone know a good place to get 4.10 gears from, or gears period online? Or would you get that sort of thing though a dealership and what kind of cost are you looking at? I dont know if we have any registered vendors here that sell gears but it would be nice to know if anyone has an answer.
