Default smog and engine family # problems

six months ago i had my catalytic converter replaced. two weeks ago it failed smog for not being the right one i took it back to the shop they assured me it was the right part i called napa kragin auto-zone they all want to sell me the same part so i went back to the smog shop they said it didn't match the engine family # the # on my truck is WCRXA0360H31 the part i have match up with WCRXA0360J11 I cant find my # anywhere it is like it doesn't exists i called air resources board they say the part i have fits my vehicle but doesn't match #'s so it wont pass smog i called the dealer they don't even know what the engine family Number is but say they can sell me one for $1,090.00 but they cant even tell me if it comply s with the family number or air resources board. even if it fits i dont want to pay that much.... kragin found a catalytic converter to match but it is for a 1999 dodge 4x4 manual transmission. i dont know what to do if any one has had this problem any help would be nice all ive found are dead ends

I do live in california if that helps

That explains it there . I have never known any problems like that . That is crazy . Did they even test it to see what the emissions are ? Man , I know Maryland follows California to a tee . I hope it never gets that carried away .

Can you request them to check and verify their info to be correct ? That just sounds totally ridiculous especially knowing thats the only thing holding it up . I had a issue years ago taking a customers vehicle to get it tested . They wouldn't test the vehicle because the shift indicator didn't work . If these simple asses are to stupid to not know what gear their in , I don't want them in my car . I took another customers car in for testing . I had just put a thermostat and gasket in it and when refilling the radiator I spilled some coolant on the radiator . There was a slight bit of steam coming from the grille area . The radiator showed no signs of leaking (I even popped the hood and showed them), nothing dripping on the ground . Those simple asses again wouldn't test that vehicle . What do thay do when it's raining outside and theres water dripping off theses cars . Do they fail everyone of them . I feel your pain . They have you by the balls and theres not much you can do about it .

Tell them the original part is no longer available and it was recommended to you that this was a direct replacement for an obsolete part.
