Default My MPG

I have been traveling for work a lot lately and have been able to get more consistent idea of my fuel consumption.

2009 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 HEMI 4x4, Crew with 3.92s

Trip 1 - Denton to San Marcus to Houston
Traveling 70 to 75 majority hwy mileage very low traffic or in town driving
3 Adults and light luggage
93 Octane
489.5 miles
28.1 gallons consumed
17.4 mpg

Trip 2 - Houston to Denton
Traveling 75 the majority of the way, hwy driving light traffic in Ft. Worth
3 Adults and light luggage
87 Octane
326.9 miles
18.8 gallons consumed
17.6 mpg

Trip 3 - Denton to Austin
Traveling 68-70 the majority of the way, heavy traffic from Georgetown to South Austin (approx. 30 miles of stop and go)
87 Octane
230 miles
12.4 gallons consumed
18.5 mpg

Considering the trips, varibles, the truck equipment, what can be said about these figures? What conclusions can be drawn? Am I getting good mileage in your opinion or should I be getting better?

If it were me, I'd be very happy with those numbers. I was a bit disappointed in my 15.6 average, mostly highway, even after a trip to FL with a V-6!

Those look like pretty good numbers. If you notice your MPG jumped 1mpg when you backed it down to 68 - 70. If you dropped back to 65 and kept it there, you'd probably see another 1mpg. Make sure you use cruise control, its more accurate than your foot.

I have a 400 mile trip coming up in Sep, I'll be posting my mpg results from that one.

I am pleased with my numbers, I would just like to see them a little higher over all, in town and hwy driving.

I was thinking about dual exhaust, CAI, or just a K&N filter, but from what I have heard from various people in this area, the exhause and CAI alone or separate will not help mpg, and some had performance drops.

Granted I have a 4.7 but I'm getting 14.5 average with about 80% city driving.

Try doing 55 mph the eco light stays on most of the time and you can get any where from 23-26 mpg. To me keeping the eco light on is like a video game because the longer it stays on the more I win!
