Angry New Tires Already!

Have an 09 1500 Laramie, 36,200 miles, that came with the goodyear tires. Took to dealer for my third tire rotation in May and was experiencing shaking and "cupping" of tires. Rotated and balanced. Took back a couple weeks later cause still shaking a bit, they said they adjusted the camber (spelling?). Two months later, no shaking but front tires are "feathered" worse than back and one of the back tires is worn to wear bar....need new tires already!! Took to tire specialty store and had Michelin LTX M/S 2.....GREAT tire, better ride than original.

FYI, "Adjustment of wheel alignment alone will seldom cure the problem. Any worn component that connects the wheel to the car (ball joint, wheel bearing, shock absorber, springs, bushings, etc.) can cause this condition. Worn components should be replaced with new ones. The worn tire should be balanced and possibly moved to a different location on the car. Occasionally, wheels that are out of balance will wear like this, but wheel imbalance usually shows up as bald spots between the outside edges and center of the tread."

Showed this to the dealer and they would not back up their service and replace tires.

That sucks! You have the 20" wheels? I know when I bought my truck, I had a very limited amount of time to have the tires replaced if needed at no cost to me. Were you within your tire warranty period? If so, they should have replaced them, granted it probably would have been with another set of the same, but still. BTW, welcome to the forum, since I see you're new here! Be sure to introduce yourself to everyone in the Newbie Checkin and get your official Ram Z welcome!

I do have the 20" wheels. I was within the tire warranty but the wear was "abnormal" and they could have fought and said it was due to neglect, even though I rotated every 10K miles. Really think the dealer did a crappy job of alignment in May. Oh well, $1,200 on new 70,000 mile warranty tires....should last til I get rid of the truck. Thanks!

The goodyears I got on my SRT8 wore out really fast. 12K miles and they were done. Crappy tires in any event.

The service writer indicated the rears were wearing faster than the fronts. He looked at me and smiled, then asked "I wonder why only the rears are wearing that fast?" Smart aleck...

Since the tires were already worn and starting to cup before the dealer did the work, they were already on the way to being non-recoverable. And since the dealer can't control whether or not your vehicle stays within proper alignment specs while you are driving it, I totally understand why they wouldn't pay for a new set of tires. It wasn't their service that caused the tires to wear.

My 3rd gen ate up the 20" goodyears in 30,000 miles. I started running a
275 55 20 there are alot more choices out there. The diameter is a little smaller but they worked fine.

I'm not defending them Goodyears by any means, but at 36,000 miles, I had a little less than half tread left on my 2008 Ram. They still rode and handled as crappy as they did the day I drove it off the lot, but they were wearing really well. It kind of surprised me... oh well.

Not a Goodyear lover . Never have , never will be . Mine were gone on my SRT8 car at 16,000 miles .
