Default Spare Tire on 2010 1500 Quad with 20's

Quick question fellow Ram lovers. Took possession on July 16/2010. Everything is good. Other day I decide to check the spare and I guess I should have done it earlier. Although I have 20's all around, the spare is a 17 inch. This can't be normal? Contacted the dealership and the rep. says he has to look into it. I simply told him must be a mistake there's no way this can be right. Someone be kind enough to tell me if I'm having a bad dream, or is this the spare I should have. Can't believe it's not supposed to be a 20? Thanks.

Hmm, I've never looked at the size of my spare. Guess I'll have to do that.

It's a 17! Haven't checked, but it is likely the same OD as the 20's.

Yeah that's my thoughts, I mean wouldn't the 17 have to spin faster causing diff issues? Thanks for the replies.

I just noticed the same thing on my truck last weekend. According to my dealership the 17 inch is the correct spare. I was told the 20 inch would not fit in the space under the truck. On the door it even lists the spare tire as a 17 inch tire.

Dodge calls the 17" spare "Full size restricted use spare". It's used for those with 20" wheels.

I have 17's so my spare is the exact duplicate of the rest of my tires.

If the outside diameter of the tire is the same as the other tires, there will be no mechanical effect of having a 17" wheel.

However, if the tire is smaller and you have to use it, best to get it off the truck ASAP because it will turn at a different rate than the other tires.

My truck had 17" inch wheels on it and i put on the stock 20" wheels.
I took off the factory 17" spare and my brother had a 20" spare off his old
2006 ram i put under with no fitment problems. It's probably cheaper for
dodge to use the 17" spare instead.

Wheel size doesn't matter as long as the tires are the same diameter.

Well, this is a bummer. Just checked mine and its a 17. Even if it was a 20 inch it wouldn't look the same as the rims that are on now. I would get the tire fixed ASAP anyways.

This is the one thing that I've noticed about the Ram the cheapness in the wheels.
