Tell me about it, plastic chrome covers are not what I expected. They still look good though.

Yep, it is a bummer about the chrome-like wheel covers. I didn't even realize that they were covers until well after I had bought my truck. I wonder how well they'll hold up over the years...

From my experience...yes it sucks knowing you have chrome capped/covered wheels!! But if the wheel was actual chrome there is a list of things that could happen
-pitting
-peeling
-leaking at the bead from chrome peeling corroding
-harder to clean
-bubbling
-corrosion
-corrosion at the valve stem..if you have TPMS may wreck the sensor

As for the plastic caps, cost may be down...you may think they cheaped you out but they look better, stay shinier and no problems around the beads so far!!
Dodge isn't the only truck that does it either, Ford and Chevy both have version out the with the same cap...actually fords is worse there is a big gap between the actual aluminum rim and plastic cap!!

Agreed as long as the overall diameter is the same your fine .

It's like that really to ditter people from riding on there spare. Spares are made for getting you safely to where you are going and that's it, then fix the real wheels. Just my 2 cents. Me personally I hate seeing people ride around constantly on spares.

I simply told him must be a mistake there's no way this can be right. Someone be kind enough to tell me if I'm having a bad dream, or is this the spare I should have. Can't believe it's not supposed to be a 20? Thanks.

They started doing this a few years ago. (2007 I think)... It sucks, but it's correct. All trucks have 17 inch steel wheels. The tire is taller on trucks with 20s, but the rim is the same...

Hmm... I'm not sure about that one. I have a 2005 ram and my spare is a good 20"s

Yep, it was on my old 2005 as well. They only changed it a few years ago and started using the 17s...

Just found a technical service bulletin for the 2009 Ram 1500's with wheel and tires shaking. Here it is:
NUMBER: 22-001-10
GROUP: Wheels/Tires
DATE: April 08, 2010
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES SERVICE BULLETIN 22-001-09, DATED MARCH 7, 2009, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS** AND INCLUDE THE ADDITION OF VEHICLE MODEL YEARS.
SUBJECT:
Vehicle Vibration Or Shake At Highway Speed

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin provides information to diagnose vehicle vibration concerns at or during PDI or if the vehicle is stored for a length of time prior to delivery.

MODELS:
2009-**2010** (DS) Ram Truck (1500)
DISCUSSION:
Tires used on the 1500 Ram models can develop a temporary flat spot when sitting on the lots and or while being shipped. This condition is more prevalent on 4 x 4 Models with 20" tires and wheels due the additional weight on the front tires from the unique components (i.e., front axle and transfer case). Weather is a critical factor and temperatures significantly above and below normal temperatures can temporarily "flat spot tires when vehicles are shipped by car hauler or rail or if vehicles are stored for an extended period. The vibration may be felt in the steering wheel and / or seat, and may be most noticeable at highway speeds, 60mph (96 kph). This may be misinterpreted as an out of balance tire.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the tires are flat-spotted due to shipping or sitting in the lot for an extended period, the vehicle vibration will go away after the tires are warmed up, (normally 10 to 20 miles of highway driving depending on outside temperatures).

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.Road test vehicle 10-20 miles to allow the tires to obtain operating temperature.
2.If highway driving doesn't resolve the vehicle vibration, follow the procedures outlined on DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT > Group 22 - Tires and Wheels.
NOTE :Replacing tires should only be done as a last resort after all appropriate wheel and tire diagnostics have been completed. U.S. dealers can contact the MOPAR tire program at if assistance is needed with obtaining any tire. Canadian dealers can contact the MOPAR tire program if assistance is needed with obtaining any tire.

POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.

Print that off and take it to them, bet they will cry and fix it! haha

I second that. Diameter is one thing, the other one is the weight of the tire which may vary between 20's and 17's with the same diameter tire. I'm not an expert here but this difference in weight may have some negative effect on the diff or other parts. Maybe someone can correct if I'm wrong or right here.
