Default 180 stat throws on check engine light?

Has anyone installed the 180 stat and have the check engine light come on. i havent installed mine yet but heard it might throw the CEL on.

I haven't heard of it causing the CEL to come on, but perhaps someone else on here has.

Haven't seen the 180 do it on the HEMI, have seen a 170 do it, though.

And it only happens when ambient temps are low and the vehicle is not warmed up before driving.

You'll be fine with a 180. I've been runnin' one in my SRT8 for 3 years with no codes at all.

I run a 180 on the Super Bee with no problems. I just set the fan settings with the predator to adjust for the cooler thermostat.

From what I've read, the 6.1's are more prone to have that issue than the 5.7's,,,

With that being said, the large majority of the 6.1 owners are not having any issues with MIL /CEL and their 180 stats.

dont mean to hijack but do you have to drain the coolant to do this..i wanna put my 180 stat in.i see the upper radiator hose and i think that is where the stat is,iit dont looki like it goes on the lower rad hose

It is in the upper rad hose housing into the engine. Get you a gallon sized plastic back, back off your bolts, hold the bag under the housing and catch the dexcool that comes out. You can put it back into the system at the recovery tank.

Then pull out your tstat. check the rim of it for a small o-ring and a groove in the tstat disk. Now check your 180 for a groove and o-ring. If you have both, you are good to go. If you only have the groove but no o-ring on the new tstat, re-use your old one.

Yep, Michael nailed it, you only have to drain the coolant to below the level of the T-stat and so long as the coolant is still good, by all means, re-use it.

Leave the rad cap on and the 'vacuum/airlock' in the system will only allow at most a couple quarts to come out,,,, Do the 'bag trick' like Maddod said,,
