When towing if you activate the tow/haul button , it alters the shift points to aid in better towing . What size boat is it ? 3.55's isn't a bad gear set especially if your not pulling a extremely heavy load .

The comments above are correct ASSUMING the tire sizes on both vehicles are the same.

My 00 Silvy had 3.73 w/255/70/16 inch tires,,,, my RAM w/3.92 has 20's,,, 30.1 dia tires on the chevy vs 33" on the RAM.

The silvy tires required 671 revs per mile vs 611 on my RAM. Almost 10% difference in tire rotations per mile.

3.92 - 3.73 = 0.19 (about 5% difference in ratio's)

Long story short, The Chevy with the smaller tires and 'higher geared' 3.73 rear dif was actually geared lower overall than my RAM with it's 20's and 3.92.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled debate,,,, =)

What's going to interfere with doing burn outs is the electronic traction control on the newer Rams.

Your right it's not a bad gear if you don't mind the torque converter constantly going out of lockup. I am pulling half what the truck is rated for.

The boat is a 18' bass boat. I think my biggest concern is going through the mountains and the affect that will have on the truck over the life of the truck as well as having to go slower and not feeling like the HEMI can move out of it's own shadows way while pulling. I am not saying that it is a bad gear.

Bass boats are not lite, I've pulled one in the past. I'd definitely see how much the dealer wants to swap the gears for you. Might be a worthwhile investment. Plus the limited slip could come in handy on slippery ramps.

No, not unless the year model dodge has some sort of control to prevent wheel spin.

Lots of sports car folks either opt for higher gear ratio if the factory offers or do it as an after market mod.

I called them yesterday - though they would not give me a price they said that it would be thousands of dollars and almost not doable - siting the fact that the transmission would not paired right and most likely would have to be changed. It is a 4x4 if that helps.
