Default 3rd gen vs 4th gen hemi

so whats the difference between a 345hp 3rd gen and a 390 hp 4th gen is it all in the programming or is there some difference in the heads/lower end ?

the noticable difference is the Intake manifold I dont think the internals are different becuase Its still a 5.7.but Im not sure could be better flowing heads also.

For 1, the heads are different. (Exhaust ports are different shaped.)

4th gen has active intake runners. I do not know if 3rd gen has that or not.

Others will have to chime in regarding futher differences.

Not sure of the actual mechanical interests, but I have owned a 3rd gen and now have a 4th gen and I do believe my 4th is faster acceleratuion wise and runs smoother.

HEADS. The ports on the (what they call Eagle) are sized and shaped like 6.1 ports. I don't remember if the valves are the same size, but there's no EGR and a 6.1 intake is a straight bolt on, no adapter required. Coupled with the active intake manifold and VVT, that's what makes the 45 horse difference.

It's my understanding that the Eagle heads outflow the 6.1 heads and this is why they're being used on the 6.4 Hemi.

Variable Valve Timing and, I believe, a slightly more aggressive cam grind. I'd have to go measure one of each to be sure and haven't had that opportunity yet.

Lift is the same but overlap and duration are a bit more agressive.
