Default Confusing Heating Issue

I have 01 Dodge Ram 4x4 5.9 L gas that had a thermostat fail...replaced it and it never seemed to reach a temperature that would heat up the cab (max temp on the gauge 170)...we flushed the radiator and put it back together and even replaced the thermostat...it appeared to heat the cab up a little bit more...according to a heat sensing gun it's plenty hot but the cab will not heat up...especially when it's cold outside...any thoughts on how to fix this?

When you flushed the radiator, did you back-flush the entire system including the heater core?

Yah we flushed it with water and compressed air...seemed to flow just fine and no real 'gunk' came out...so i'm super confused cause its gonna get cold here soon and the truck wont heat up or spit out hot air...i thought bout getting a cold weather grill guard....

Sometimes a heater core will just get so coated that a flush (even with compressed air) won't remedy the problem. If you're getting hot coolant in and out of both hoses, then you need a new core. I strongly recommend NOT using an aftermarket core. Make sure that your blend door is operating correctly too.

Where should i located a heater core that is not an aftermarket one? Also how can i make sure the blend door is operating correctly?

What about the engine not heating up though? Do dodges typically run at a lower temp? Its no where near 210 in the middle...

Place your hand on the heater hoses once it gets up to temp . If their hot to the touch the problem isn't in the thermostat . It could be a clogged or dirty core .

If you have an infared temp gun, shoot the engine as close to the temp sensor as possible and that should give you a pretty accurate number. I would expect the temp to be within 10-20 degress of the thermostat spec. You can get an original equipment core from the dealership but it's going to cost a bit more. If your a/c is working like it should, you can change the temp settings from full cold to full hot and see a significant change. With the heater on full speed, floor setting, and the vehicle at operating temp, you should see a temp output of about 145F.
