Default Exhaust Thoughts...

Okay, CAI is coming shortly, next move is exhaust. This is what I was thinking about doing, not sure if it makes sense, so work with me please.

I am not looking for loud, just throaty, deep, not much louder than stock at idle. So I was thinking of just keeping my current set up and have just the muffler cut off and either a magnaflow or flowmaster installed in its place. Single in and single out. Will that be enough of a modification or do I need to replace the tail pipe (which its my understanding that the resonator will then be removed which will make it louder). What is the diameter of the stock pipe? Is replacing just the muffler worth it?

I have a single in/single out Magnaflow muffler on mine and I'm very happy with it. The resonators help with the drone that bothers you when MDS kicks in.

I'd go with the muffler replacement. You won't need to replace your tailpipe unless you decide to go with a single in/dual out setup like I did.

To decide what muffler to go with, crawl under the truck and see what the stock inlet/outlet pipe configuration is, i.e. center/center (through the center of the muffler at both ends), center/offset (center inlet, offset outlet), offset/offset (offset in, offset out) then measure the OD of your pipe (it's probably 2.5" - 2.75" but it may be 3.0").

Then go to Magnaflow's website and do a little searching. It's an easy site to work with.

Good luck!

Good info ^^^^ and I agree. If you aren't going to a true dual system, get a good flowing Y pipe. That piece seems to be the most restrictive part of the exhaust.

Are there different configurations? I thought all the '09s were 3" pipe center/offset.
