Default How To Remove Paint But Not Primer?

The paint is peeling off of my Indy. I cannot spray it but I thought that I might be able to prep it and save some cash.

I talked to a friend in my hometown of Humphrey, Nebraska a few days ago and he mentioned something to the effect that the government was involved in a new paint process in the Nineties that did not turn out so well. Paint bad...primer good.

Has anyone heard of Dale Boesch? He does some high-end hot rod & street rod work.

I am planning on leaving the stripes off for now but keep the Brilliant Blue.

I'm not sure thats gonna be so easy . Even if you remove the primer you can still respray it . Sand it off , chemically remove it , or media blast it .

Yeah, there was an experiment in eco-friendly primer and paint systems starting in the late 80's. Ever see a late 80's to early 90's mid size sedan or truck that had a blotchy paint job that was peeling off? That was the result.

There's some new stuff out there now that seems to hold up a lot better.

As Tom said, sand, strip or blast is how ya get the paint off.
