i was wondering what cai i should get. whats the best but it has to have a cheap price. i have a 97 sport with a 5.2 but its so low geared i have no get up and go. im just doing some looking around and research. any help would be great.
i was also wondering bout the performance chips. i know nothing bout them. i was wanting to get one but the ones the ones i read seemed unreal. 75 mpg? for a 5.2? thats like a motorcycle. are they worth it? are they good? anything?

For your truck, the Superchips units would be the best. It will help with that low end torque you are looking for to move the truck off the line.
One other alternative is a custom computer flash by B&G Performance.
Those rear end gears aren't slowing you down, it's where your HP and torque come on relevant to your RPM reading. The lower in the RPM band the HP and torque come on, the better it will feel.
CAI's come in all shapes and sizes. There are cheap ones, medium priced ones and expensive ones and there are a lot of them out there.
The cheapest style is the open filter arrangement, such as those made by K&N. A bit more expensive are the Volant & AFE systems closed systems which take cold air from a stock inner fender location.
Just be careful of how cheap you go...you get what you pay for. You could end up with a cheap system that really doesn't flow well, wasting your money. Or, you could end up with a cheap system in which the filter falls apart and get's sucked into your engine and that will cost you a LOT of money to repair.
I have a super chips on the way. you can get used ones here in the Classifieds for like 150 dollars. as far as an intake i used a 14X3 open element with a K&n filter. it works well for what i payed for it.
