You know I searched a good ten minutes for that poll upon seeing this thread and was gonna' post the link.... except I couldn't find it.

Good catch.

FWIW, I'm putting 87 octane gas on my stock Ram with about 1500 miles so far. The Hemi is running just fine and getting about 17 mpg on hwy.

I have used the following with zero difference in mileage or driveability.
BP 87
BP89
Shell 87
Shell 89
Phillips 66 87
phillips 66 89
Caseys 87
Caseys 89
I don't tow or haul anything. I'm getting right at, and once over 20 MPG.

To the original poster; If you know your going to pull something push the TOW/HAUL button and go. I would just use TOP TIER fuel and be done with it.
As I posted before Ma Mopar tech said they assumed 89 octane had more detergents so thats why they "preferred" the 89 stuff to keep engine cleaner inside. I believe them.
Just my 2 cents.

I bounce back and forth between 87 and 89 depending on how fat my wallet is when I'll filling up. But I notice zero difference in the truck between the two octanes. If I was going to do some towing with it though I'd probably run 89 just to be nice to the truck.

I do one tank of 87 and then one tank of 91 since sams club only sells those two. I will probably just start doing 91 only when it get COLD.

If its cold I've always been told to use the lowest octane since it burns faster. The 91 will burn slower than normal with the cold temps. The 91 would be better used in hot temps to resist detonation. Thats what the ol' timers say.
