Default Tailgate seal?

Anybody using a tailgate seal? Truxedo sent me one for free when I bought my tonneau cover. It's just a rubber gasket with adhesive that goes on the inside of the tailgate to prevent dirt/water from splashing up in the bed.

I'd rather not stick junk on the truck if I don't need it, and I haven't owned the vehicle long enough to determine if water/dirt getting up in the bed is a problem. Is it?? I mean, with the cover on, the bed seems to stay watertight. But have any of you noticed an issue with getting road grime up in the bed through the tailgate?

Thanks in advance!

I had one on my last ram. It worked really well only complaint would be in the winter going from a heated garage to the cold it would freeze shut. I do still plan on putting one on my new ram though.

They wouldn't have provided it unless it was needed, would they?

I say put it on. You'll be glad you did come fall & winter.

Well, it isn't "needed" with the Truxedo tonneau I bought. Autoanything had a deal and you got a Truxseal free with your purchase of the tonneau cover.

I'll try it. Worst case scenario, I hate it, remove it, and then light it on fire. Or something.

I actually want one for mine, with a tonneau I still get some water and dust leaking in.

There is supposed to be a pressure differential between the outside and inside of the bed that developes as you drive down the road. This results in water and dust entering the rear area of the bed from the tailgate.

Unless you are trying for a totally sterile truck bed I don't think a tailgate seal is neccessary. I have the BakFlip without a tailgate seal and haven't noticed any great problems.

I noticed a definite gap between the side rails & the tailgate, you can almost see all the way through it,
I think the bed on the new Rams is possibly the worst designed part ever,
gaps between the rails & tailgate,
the rails & tailgate are a different height
the tailgate & rail plastic covers hide a series of holes & depressions that look terrible, if i were to buy another Ram, i would purchase the after market metal caps that replace the plastic

That being said, i have not seen any dirt build up inside the Ram bed, it doesn't rain here very much, but, we have a lot of blow sand.
I have a soft tonneux cover on my Ram
